Position Overview
The Surface Haul Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of surface haul trucks transporting ore and tailings along Bunker Hill Mine’s private haul road. This position supports continuous mining and processing operations by hauling ore from the mine to the processing plant, returning tailings to the paste plant, and repeating this cycle while strictly adhering to safety, operational, and environmental standards.

- Safely operate surface haul trucks on a private haul road in varying weather and road conditions.
- Transport ore from the mine to the processing plant according to dispatch and production schedules.
- Dump ore at the processing plant following established procedures.
- Load tailings at the processing plant using designated load-out systems.
- Transport tailings back up the haul road and dump at the paste plant.
- Perform pre-shift, post-shift, and en-route equipment inspections; report defects or maintenance needs.
- Maintain clear communication with dispatch, plant operators, and supervisors via radio.
- Follow all Bunker Hill Mine safety policies, MSHA regulations, traffic control rules, and environmental requirements.
- Accurately complete haul logs, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
- Respond appropriately to changing conditions, emergencies, or operational priorities.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in and around assigned equipment.
Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record; no DUI/DWI, reckless driving, excessive moving violations, or multiple at-fault accidents within the last three (3) years.
- Ability to meet and maintain mine site driving requirements.
- Experience operating heavy equipment or haul trucks in mining, construction, or industrial environments.
- Experience working in cold, snowy, or mountainous environments similar to North Idaho.
- Strong understanding of safe driving practices on steep grades, narrow roads, and industrial sites.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and report equipment issues.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Prior surface mining haul truck experience highly preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
- Ability to climb ladders and access equipment cabs multiple times per shift.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including cold, snow, dust, and noise.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Visual acuity and depth perception required for safe equipment operation.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for the duration of the shift.
