Position Overview
The Geological Technician at Bunker Hill Mine supports the geology team in collecting, documenting, and analyzing geological data critical to mineral exploration, resource modeling, and production planning. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate sampling, logging, and data management processes to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant underground mining operations within the Coeur d’Alene mining district.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect and log drill core and underground rock samples in accordance with company procedures
- Assist geologists with geological mapping in underground and surface environments
- Label, catalog, and prepare samples for laboratory analysis (assay and geochemical testing)
- Maintain accurate geological databases, logs, and digital records
- Assist with core cutting, sampling, and QA/QC procedures
- Operate and maintain sampling and geological logging equipment
- Support drilling programs through sample coordination, handling, and tracking
- Conduct inspections of sampling areas and ensure compliance with safety standards
- Prepare maps, cross-sections, and reports using geological software
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to communicate geological findings
- Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety regulations and company policies
Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Geology or related field preferred
- Basic understanding of geology, mineralization, and sampling techniques
- Experience with core logging, sample handling, and QA/QC procedures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and data entry systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work in underground mining environments
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote sites
- 1–3 years of mining, geology, or field sampling experience preferred
- Experience in underground hard rock mining environments preferred
- Familiarity with geological software such as Leapfrog, ArcGIS, or Vulcan
- Experience with geological databases such as acQuire preferred
- First Aid/CPR and MSHA certification preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work underground in confined spaces, varying temperatures, and humid conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (core boxes and equipment)
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders for extended periods
- Manual dexterity to operate tools and handle samples
- Ability to wear required PPE including respirators and safety gear
- Visual acuity to log geological data and identify features accurately
